How I Saved Over $2000 On My Furniture Purchases: A Step-By-Step Guide

So you’re in the market to buy some new furniture, eh?

Well, listen close. I’m about to tell you how I saved over $2000 on my furniture purchases just by following a few easy steps…

In the past year, I have been completely renovating our home from top to bottom.

In doing so, I have been researching furniture pieces that will suit my home and lifestyle.

I was able to save approximately $2000 on several high-end products which were shipped directly to my door!

OK, I’ll tell you how…

Let’s start with the entertainment center. The one I was looking at had a retail price of $1600, but thanks to the Warehouse Discounts Deal, it came down to about $1200.

Now you’re probably wondering where this warehouse is located?

It’s actually online.

At present, there are over 2000 stores that sell items for less than what you find in your local store.

So it makes sense if you want to save money on any type of purchase (not just furniture), shop online.

But here’s the kicker…

Always make sure to check out their shipping fees before you make any final decisions on an item because some places will only ship the product to your home but the shipping fees will eat into your savings .

Moving on… In my case, I was looking for a home office desk and wasn’t able to find one within my price range.

But again, thanks to the Warehouse Discounts Deals, there were several desks I could choose from that could be shipped directly to my door.

And since they offer free shipping all year round, I didn’t have to worry about paying any hidden fees after purchasing an item.

Lastly, let’s talk about the kitchen table set that came with four chairs.

This beautiful piece of furniture was going for $450 but through the Warehouse Discounts Deals, I was able to purchase it for $300.

You see, most people buy furniture without doing any research or shopping around online first.

As a result, they end up spending way more money than necessary on expensive items that look nice but lack quality construction.

And on top of that, they forget the importance of checking the shipping fees.

That’s it! Pretty simple right?

Another way i saved was by shopping for my furniture through Rakuten.

This is a cashback site that gives you a percentage cash back on all purchases made using their site.

I saved $800 from Rakuten alone simply by buying a few pieces of furniture through their website.

The benefit of using websites like Rakuten and WarehouseDiscountsDeals.com is that you can find a massive selection of furniture from all types of stores.

Sign up with Rakuten and get $30 after your first purchase

There are absolutely no membership fees to become a member with any website, so make sure to save at least two of these deals on your favorites list!

At this point, I’ve saved over $2000 from buying high-end furniture without paying full price. In fact, I was able to pay for my entire kitchen table set ($450) using cashback rewards from one offer alone!

And because there were no shipping costs involved, I saved money.

What to look for when buying furniture :

Re-upholstery: Rather than buying new, I looked around for great deals on quality furniture that would benefit from a new upholstery job.

I found several pieces with the right lines and construction that were in need of some TLC.

You can also check Craigslist or your local thrift store to find pieces that are still very structurally sound but just need some touching up.

Check out these examples below…

Side Table – Wood, black metal frame, solid legs – $30 (Craigslist)

Upholstery fabric – $20

Pillow covers – already owned

Staple gun/staples – already owned

TOTAL COST = $50

These are just an example of great pieces that I was able to reupholster using my own fabric.

If you can sew, go for it! It’s an easy job and you’ll save a lot of money… if not, there are plenty of upholstery shops in most cities that will be happy to assist.

Just make sure they use flame retardant foam!

Craigslist/Estate Sale Finds One of the best ways to find furniture bargains is on Craigslist or at estate sales.

People often need to sell their belongings quickly and for a great deal.

Craigslist/Estate Sale Find Example: Entertainment Center – Solid wood construction with glass doors. In my opinion it would cost well over $2000 if bought from a furniture retailer.

I paid… wait for it… $180 !!! That’s right… 180 bucks!

The reason I was able to pull this off is that the piece had some damage on one side of the unit, but it still glided open and closed without any issues so I decided to purchase it anyway knowing that all I’d have to do is touch up the finish.

Again, don’t be scared to buy pieces that need some TLC… they can often be had for a fraction of their original price and just need a little touch-up and TLC.

Unless you plan on doing your own reupholstery, I wouldn’t recommend getting anything too beat up because it will likely be more expensive than buying new if it needs to be refinished by an upholsterer.

What to look for in furniture finishes:

Solid Wood Frames – Unlike fine furniture or antique pieces, most modern pieces use veneers, MDF (medium-density fiberboard), or particle board for their construction.

The durability of these materials are often questionable and many times it will show over time.

Don’t be fooled by the lower price… it’s just that much harder to refinish or reupholster should you ever want to change up your look in the future.

Solid wood frames are preferable because they are usually made from one solid piece of lumber, which means if something were to happen to damage them down the road they can be refinished/repaired with minimal effort.

Cushions – High-quality cushions have a very high density while cheap ones use low-quality fillers such as cotton or foam beads. If possible try to purchase pieces with high resiliency foam inserts.

CONCLUSION AND FINAL THOUGHTS

Furniture is a very important part of our homes and there are thousands upon thousands of styles, designs, and price points to choose from.

I hope you found this article useful and it helps save you a few bucks on your next furniture purchase!

Keep in mind that when you are shopping for quality pieces, it may take a few weeks to find the right piece

Shop around, ask friends & family or check out thrift stores before jumping into your next large furniture purchase.”
